If you have never ridden a motorcycle, this class will teach you how. You will learn the mental and physical skills needed to ride on public roads and to become licensed. Two-wheeled, manual-shift-and-clutch motorcycles provided.
The Basic Rider Course is comprised of both an online portion (completed prior to the first night of class) and the in-person class days. The Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Basic eCourse will provide students with the basic classroom knowledge to begin riding the motorcycle. Designed for beginning riders, ages 16 and up, this course focuses on the development of basic riding skills: clutch and throttle coordination, straight-line riding, braking, turning, and shifting. Successful completion of this course and its knowledge and skills test, which consists of approximately 18 hours of classroom and hands-on riding instruction, will result in a riding test waiver by the Secretary of State. Prerequisite: ability to ride a bicycle.
Requirements: You must have a valid email address and driver’s license on file with Adult Learning Services. You must complete the online eCourse prior to the course start date and bring the completion certificate to the first class session. The link to the eCourse will be distributed by Adult Learning Services via email.

Returning Rider Basic Rider Course (RRBRC)
This class is for an experienced but unlicensed motorcycle rider. You will improve your riding skills and this one-day class will help you get a motorcycle endorsement on your Michigan driver’s license. Students must provide their own street legal, licensed, two-wheeled motorcycle and show registration and proof of insurance. Two-wheeled scooters that are licensed by the State of Michigan as motorcycles may be ridden in this class. Your basic riding skills, starting, stopping, shifting, and turning will be evaluated during the first two range exercises. You will not be allowed to continue in the range exercises if you do not demonstrate adequate basic riding skills and no refund will be given. Motorcycles/scooters that are not in good condition will not be allowed to be ridden in this class.
A one day course designed for the experienced rider to become licensed and legal. Many experienced, licensed riders use this course as a skills refresher. Topics include: braking, counter steering, turning, speed judgment, and other techniques necessary for the experienced rider to operate a motorcycle skillfully and safely. You must be 18 years of age; if you are 16 or 17, you may take this course only if you have a valid license and a current motorcycle endorsement. Each student must provide their own street-legal, two-wheeled motorcycle. Three-wheeled motorcycles are NOT permitted. Sharing is NOT permitted. Scooters will be allowed. The cycle must be titled, properly registered, and display a valid license plate. Each student must provide proof of insurance and the bike must pass a safety inspection. Successful completion allows a student to waive the Secretary of State riding skills test.
